The Ardmore 12 Years Old PORT WOOD FINISH is a fascinating single malt Scotch whisky which develops exceptional depth and complexity thanks to its unique maturation and finish in port casks. This 12-year-old Ardmore was initially matured in ex-American bourbon casks before being transferred to European port wine casks for the final touch. The finish in the port casks imparts a fruity sweetness and rich complexity to the whisky, which harmonises perfectly with Ardmore’s classic smoky and peaty notes.

With an alcohol content of 46% ABV, the Ardmore Port Wood Finish is a full-bodied whisky that is both powerful and smooth on the palate. The combination of traditional bourbon cask maturation and the innovative port finish creates a unique flavour profile, ranging from fruity notes such as red berries and plums to smoky and peaty accents.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with coppery highlights.

Nose: A harmonious blend of smoky and peaty notes, combined with fruity aromas of red berries, plums and a delicate hint of oak.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with fruity notes of plums and candied fruit blending with the smoky and peaty flavours, complemented by subtle hints of oak and spice.

Finish: Long and warm, with a fruity sweetness and a pleasant smoky, oaky spiciness that fades gently.

The Ardmore 12 Years Old Old Port Wood Finish is excellent enjoyed neat or with a small splash of water to allow the flavours to unfold further. It pairs perfectly with mature cheeses such as Comté or Gouda, and also harmonises beautifully with dark chocolate or fruity desserts such as tarte Tatin or crème brûlée. This whisky is also a superb accompaniment to grilled meats, BBQ dishes or lamb.
