Koskenkorva Vodka SAUNA BARREL is an exceptional Finnish vodka speciality that combines classic Koskenkorva Vodka with ageing in American oak. The idea for this bottling was conceived in the smoky heat of a traditional smoke sauna in the village of Koskenkorva in Finland, thus capturing a piece of Finnish culture. Koskenkorva Vodka serves as the base, which is then aged in well-toasted American oak casks. Contact with the wood gives the vodka a distinctly fuller character and develops notes that are otherwise more commonly associated with cask-matured spirits such as whisky. In particular, the combination of oak, vanilla and subtle smokiness sets the Sauna Barrel apart from classic, unaged vodka.


At 37.5 per cent, Koskenkorva Sauna Barrel Vodka is bottled in a generous 1-litre bottle. The barrel ageing results in a smooth, slightly smoky style with earthy and spicy notes, as well as hints of bourbon, tar and herbs. The vodka base remains recognisable, yet is enhanced by the characteristic influences of the toasted American oak casks. The result is an unusual cask-matured vodka from Finland that builds an interesting bridge between vodka and classic whisky flavours. Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Smooth and spicy with earthy oak, vanilla and herbs, accompanied by subtle notes of smoke and tar.

Palate: Full-bodied and smooth with American oak, vanilla and bourbon-like hints, along with herbs and a slight smokiness.

Finish: Pleasantly lingering and warming with oak spice, delicate vanilla and subtle notes of smoke and tar.

Koskenkorva Vodka SAUNA BARREL is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat, on the rocks or as a simple long drink with cola. Thanks to its cask-matured, slightly smoky character, it also works exceptionally well in classic whisky cocktails, such as a Manhattan or a Mint Julep. Culinary pairings include smoked meats, grilled dishes, hearty sausages or mature cheeses, which complement the oak and smoky notes.
