The Dictador BEST OF 1978 ALTISIMO Colombian Rum Limited Release is an exceptionally rare vintage rum bottling from Colombia, with an alcohol content of 45 per cent, in a 0.7-litre bottle. This edition is part of Dictador’s exclusive ‘Best Of’ series and is based on a selected rum from the 1978 vintage, which has been aged for a total of 40 years. To ensure clear identification, the bottling bears the cask number EX-W141 and the batch number 78-004. The ALTISIMO Edition is distinguished in particular by the use of selected whisky casks from the Scottish Highlands, whose influence is intended to lend an additional dimension to the long-aged Colombian rum. The aim of this special cask selection is to create a blend of floral notes and characteristic hints of peat and smoke.


Particularly noteworthy is the distinct collector’s appeal of the Dictador Best of 1978 ALTISIMO. Only 300 bottles of this limited edition were bottled worldwide, making it one of the most exceptionally rare Dictador releases. Furthermore, the labels are inscribed by hand and personally signed by Master Blender Hernan Parra. Tasting Note

Colour: Deep amber to dark mahogany.

Nose: Complex and mature, with floral hints, spicy woody notes and subtle nuances of smoke and peat.

Palate: Full-bodied and multi-layered with mature cask notes, subtle sweetness and spicy accents, accompanied by floral, smoky and slightly peaty nuances.

Finish: Long-lasting and intense with spicy oak, subtle smoke and a complex, mature aftertaste.

Given its 40 years of maturation and limited production of just 300 bottles worldwide, the Dictador Best of 1978 ALTISIMO is best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a suitable nosing or rum glass. Dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, roasted walnuts or long-matured hard cheeses make for subtle accompaniments, allowing the robust cask character to shine through. A cigar may also complement the smoky and woody notes of this ALTISIMO edition. However, thanks to the hand-inscribed label signed by Hernan Parra, this bottling is equally suited as a special collector’s item for Dictador enthusiasts, where rarity, vintage and the individual cask’s history are clearly the focal points.
