The history of Ardbeg goes back a long way: unofficially, the Ardbeg distillery has been distilling since 1794, but the distillery was not officially opened until 1815 by John McDougall under the name Ardbeg. The name "Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic and means "small hill" - a reference to the distillery's geographical location. The distillery is located on the south coast of the Scottish whisky region of Islay, which is famous for its heavily peated and maritime-influenced whiskies.

This whisky is a tribute to the typical Ardbeg intensity and is particularly appealing to lovers of smoky single malts.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold with slightly oily streaks.

Nose: Dominant peat smoke, paired with maritime notes and a surprising herbal spiciness, fennel, celery and white pepper complement the smoky intensity.

Flavour: Powerful and spicy with a distinctive smokiness. Notes of roasted almonds, dark liquorice and espresso mingle with sweet malt.

Finish: Langs and dry with intense smoky notes, accompanied by black pepper, salty sea breeze and a hint of bitterness.
