Douglas Laing Big Peat The THROPAIGEACH Edition – which means ‘tropical’ in Gaelic – is the special bottling for 2024, released to mark the Fèis Ìle, the annual Islay Festival. This limited edition is finished in selected ex-rum casks, lending this traditional Islay malt a robust yet tropical character.

The Fèis Ìle, also known as the Islay Festival, attracts whisky lovers from all over the world. It is an annual celebration of the whisky produced on the island and the local culture. During the festival, the distilleries open their doors, offer special tastings and events, and release unique bottlings.

The design of this bottling is unique: Big Peat appears in a pirate-style design, in keeping with the Caribbean rum casks in which the whisky was finished. The bottle label depicts Big Peat surrounded by palm trees, parrots and swords, all rendered in vibrant shades of yellow that emphasise the tropical theme.

Limited to 5,688 bottles worldwide.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold.

Nose: Warm peaty smoke, grilled marshmallows.

Palate: Oily, full-bodied, flambéed bananas, sweet honey, hints of grilled meat.

Finish: Long-lasting, with nuances of nutmeg, charcoal dust and a fruity note of grilled pineapple.
