Hödl Hof, first mentioned in 1542 in connection with a tax collection to defend against the Turks, was a highly prized fief of the Stubenberg family, managed by Hans Hedl. Even then, the estate was considered ‘freehold’, which promised the family long-term security. Over the centuries, the farm developed into a prestigious fruit distillery in Stubenberg am See, Styria, Austria.

The seventh generation, Franz and Gisela Dunst, took over the legacy, with Franz converting the business to fruit growing and viticulture and bringing a passion for schnapps distilling. Alfred Dunst, another descendant who joined the business in 2002, later founded a commercial fruit distillery specialising in schnapps and guided the business towards organic certification in 2022, transforming the Hödl Hof into a modern organic farm.

After 1.5 years of careful development, the Hödl Hof unveiled its London Dry Gin, which quickly secured its place amongst the finest gins. Characterised by the uniqueness of each batch and each vintage, the 1542 London Dry Gin Old Classic from Hödl Hof stands out in particular. As a classic juniper spirit, crafted from 15 carefully selected botanicals, it captivates with its rich aromatic profile.

It is bottled at 42% ABV in black, medieval-style clay bottles.

Tasting Note

Colour: Clear.

Nose: Intense, fresh, harmonious, juniper, hay, hints of citrus.

Palate: Very dry, complex, full-bodied, robust, citrus fruits, juniper.

Finish: Long-lasting, dry.

This gin can be enjoyed neat or in a cocktail.
