The Terra d'Aligi Tatone Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2022 is a powerful, full-bodied red wine from the picturesque Abruzzo region in central Italy. Made from the indigenous Montepulciano grape variety, this wine comes from the Terra d'Aligi winery, which specialises in characterful wines that reflect the region’s character. The name ‘Tatone’ – an affectionate term for ‘grandfather’ in the local dialect – refers to the powerful yet gentle character of this special wine.

The grapes come from vineyards with calcareous clay soils, situated on ideal slopes characterised by Mediterranean influences and cool downdrafts from the Apennines. After careful harvesting, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged for several months in oak barrels, which gives it structure, depth and ageing potential. The 2022 vintage is particularly well-balanced, with concentrated fruit, a structure of ripe tannins and good drinkability.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Tatone glows with a deep ruby red colour and garnet-red highlights. On the nose, a complex bouquet unfolds, with aromas of ripe wild berries, black cherries, plum compote, tobacco and subtle toasted notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, juicy and powerful, with finely integrated tannins, warm spice and a long-lasting, slightly balsamic finish.

A perfect accompaniment to stews, roast beef, game, lamb, mature Pecorino or pasta with truffle or mushroom sauces. Also an ideal choice for a rustic dinner featuring antipasti and strong cheeses. It is also worth decanting to allow the flavours to develop fully.
