The Netzl Carnuntum Pinot Blanc Ried Altenberg 2022 is an elegant and terroir-driven Austrian white wine that impressively reflects the uniqueness of the Ried Altenberg in Göttelsbrunn (Carnuntum). The site is characterized by Danube gravel with loess in the subsoil and is located on a cooler gravel hill with an eastern exposure and the formative influence of the nearby forest. The warm Pannonian climate with hot summer days, long late summers and mild autumns ensures fully ripe grapes, while the Altenberg site also retains freshness, lively acidity and a distinctive aroma.
The grapes were selectively harvested by hand on September 28, 2023, with precise whole-cluster and single-cluster selection. The wine was then matured without intervention in used 500-litre oak barrels and in amphorae, where it was left to mature on its lees for 6 months - without racking and only stabilized with the first sulphurization. This elaborate vinification process gives the wine a fine structure, a creamy texture and a special depth.
