Douglas Laing Big Peat Islay Blended Malt is a characterful blended malt Scotch whisky, composed exclusively of single malt whiskies from the Scottish island of Islay. For Big Peat, the independent bottler Douglas Laing blends selected Islay malts in small batches. Well-known components include whiskies from Caol Ila, Bowmore and Ardbeg, as well as a contribution from the legendary Port Ellen Distillery, which has long been closed. Caol Ila contributes a delicate sweetness, Bowmore provides balance, Ardbeg brings medicinal and earthy notes, and Port Ellen adds a touch of elegance to the blend. Big Peat is part of the Remarkable Regional Malts series, through which Douglas Laing reflects Scotland’s distinctive whisky regions in individual blended malts.


This exceptional edition is presented at 46% in an impressive 4.5-litre large bottle with a swivel stand. The practical stand allows the large bottle to be swivelled comfortably for pouring, whilst also making the bottle a striking centrepiece in a home bar, restaurant or at events. As is characteristic of Big Peat, the whisky is bottled without chill filtration and without the addition of colouring. This ensures that the original character of the Islay malts used is largely preserved. Tasting Note

Colour: Natural gold.

Nose: Fresh, clean and maritime with salty notes, followed by sweetish malt and robust peaty smoke.

Palate: Intense and smoky with campfire ash, sweet tar, maritime coastal hints and smoking fireplaces.

Finish: Long-lasting and powerful with salty, spicy liquorice, smoke, campfire ash and distinct phenolic notes.

The Douglas Laing Big Peat Islay Blended Malt is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, but can also be served with a few drops of water to further open up its intense smoky and peaty notes. It pairs well with smoked salmon, strong hard cheese, barbecued meat or dark chocolate, which can stand up to its maritime and phenolic character.
