Tonka Gin 47% ABV 0.5l

Tonka Gin 47% vol. in a 0.5-litre bottle is a unique premium gin that captivates with its exceptional composition and history. It was developed by Daniel Soumikh, who, whilst travelling through Spain, came up with the idea of refining a gin with tonka beans. Following a two-year development phase involving bartenders and distilleries, Tonka Gin was first released on 26 September 2014.

What makes this gin special is the use of over 23 carefully selected botanicals, which give it a multi-layered flavour profile. Alongside the classic juniper, the tonka bean takes centre stage, lending the gin its distinctive notes of vanilla, almond and caramel. This combination creates a harmonious balance between sweet, spicy and fresh notes. The angular bottle is reminiscent of the Prohibition era in the USA (1919–1933), when this shape was particularly practical for contraband.

Tasting Note

Colour: Crystal-clear.

Nose: Juniper, sweet vanilla notes, almond, cinnamon and a hint of orange peel.

Palate: Smooth and complex, with distinct notes of tonka bean, caramel, toasted almonds, juniper and exotic spices.

Finish: Long and pleasantly warm, with a combination of sweet and spicy flavours and a subtle citrus freshness.

Tonka Gin is ideal for creative gin and tonic variations – best served with a mild tonic water that does not overpower the delicate flavours. A garnish of orange zest or a vanilla pod enhances the unique notes of the tonka bean. It also delivers an exceptional taste experience in cocktails such as the Negroni or Gin Sour. In terms of food pairings, it goes exceptionally well with dark chocolate, almond desserts or aromatic cheeses.
