Wolfburn LANGSKIP Single Malt Scotch Whisky 58% vol. 0.7 l in a gift box

In 1821, William Smith founded the Wolfburn distillery on the outskirts of Thurso, named after a nearby stream. The distillery, built from sturdy Caithness stone slabs, quickly developed into a major producer of malt whisky. The distillery remained family-owned until the 1850s and may have been in sporadic operation until the 1860s, although it was marked as a ruin on a map in 1872. A new building was erected near the old site.

The distillery’s logo, designed in 2011, is based on a 16th-century drawing by Conrad Gessner and refers to the ‘Seewolf’, a local legend said to bring good luck. The logo symbolises the distillery’s deep connection to Scottish culture and history.

‘Langskip’ is the Scottish Gaelic word for ‘longship’, which the Vikings used for both military expeditions and everyday tasks. Wolfburn Langskip is matured for five years in ex-bourbon casks, which gives it a distinctive aroma and a flavour full of character. Wolfburn Langskip is bottled at cask strength, i.e. at its original strength straight from the cask, without the addition of water. Furthermore, no artificial colourings are used and the whisky is not chill-filtered, in order to preserve the natural quality and purity of the flavours.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold.

Nose: Soft, light, fruit blossoms, dried apples, oak, raisins, dates, fruit cake.

Palate: Rich, sweet, maple syrup, chocolate, almonds, raisins, vanilla.

Finish: Long-lasting, caramel.
