The Charles Smith Boom Boom Syrah 2018 is a powerful, expressive red wine from Washington State that impresses with its intense fruitiness, spice and impressive structure. Produced by the renowned winemaker Charles Smith, who is known for his unconventional yet outstanding wines, this Syrah perfectly reflects the terroir of the Columbia Valley. The wine is vinified from carefully selected grapes and aged in oak barrels to develop its depth and complexity.

The Charles Smith Wines brand was founded by former music manager Charles Smith, who discovered his passion for wine after years of touring with rock bands. In 1999, he moved to Washington State and began producing wines characterised by their distinctive character, high quality and striking labels. His philosophy is to create authentic wines that reflect the character of the grape variety and the growing region – without excessive technical intervention, but with a focus on naturalness and craftsmanship. The Boom Boom Syrah was one of his first wines and quickly became one of the most popular Syrahs from the USA.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Boom Boom Syrah 2018 displays a dark, impenetrable ruby red colour with violet highlights. On the nose, opulent aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries and blackcurrants unfold, accompanied by floral notes of violets and a subtle hint of smoke. On the palate, it is powerful with juicy fruit, spicy nuances of black pepper, cloves and cedar wood, as well as a hint of liquorice. The tannins are present but supple, and the fine acidity provides remarkable freshness. The finish is long, intense and characterised by dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla.

This full-bodied Syrah is an excellent accompaniment to grilled meat, particularly steaks, lamb chops or spicy marinated spare ribs. It also reveals its full potential when paired with hearty stews, game dishes or mature cheeses. For the perfect tasting experience, it should be served at a temperature of 16–18 °C and ideally decanted an hour before drinking.

Thanks to its intense aromas, the Boom Boom Syrah is also ideal for convivial evenings or as an expressive highlight to complement hearty BBQ dishes.
