Kirk and Sweeney GRAN RESERVA Old Dominican Rum is a premium Dominican rum, bottled at 40 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, which combines traditional craftsmanship with the Dominican Republic’s long history of rum-making. The brand takes its name from the legendary wooden schooner Kirk and Sweeney Rum, which was renowned during the Prohibition era for smuggling rum from the Caribbean to the north-east of the USA. The elaborately designed bottle also draws on this history: The shape is modelled on the bulbous rum bottles of the 18th century, whilst a historical nautical chart of the smuggling route of that era and maritime details emphasise the brand’s distinctive character. The rum is produced from hand-harvested sugar cane in the Dominican Republic. Following fermentation and distillation, the distillates are matured in various oak casks before being combined into a harmonious blend through repeated blending and further ageing. Carefully selected rums aged between 3 and 18 years are used for the final Gran Reserva.


Kirk and Sweeney GRAN RESERVA impresses with a full-bodied and exceptionally smooth character. Intense vanilla notes combine with subtle hints of sherry, raisins and toasted sugar cane.
