Brugal LEYENDA 5 Years Old Selección Especial is a Dominican rum that combines the long tradition of the Brugal house with a two-stage cask maturation process. The producer’s history dates back to the 19th century: After the company’s founder had acquired his knowledge of rum production in Cuba, he moved to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic around 1855. There, over the following years, he developed his own production method, which has been passed down within the family from generation to generation. To this day, Puerto Plata remains closely linked to Brugal and plays a central role, particularly in the ageing of the rums. Brugal Leyenda Selección Especial thus embodies the combination of Dominican rum tradition, many years of experience and carefully selected cask ageing.


For the Brugal LEYENDA 5 Years Old, the rum is first aged in American white oak casks that previously contained bourbon. The rum then undergoes a further maturation phase in Spanish red oak casks that previously held sherry. This combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks shapes the distinctive character of the Selección Especial and blends the different influences of American and Spanish oak. The age statement of 5 years highlights the mature character of this bottling.
