Description
Daftmill Lowland Single Malt Summer Batch Release 2011 46% ABV 0.7l online kaufen
The Daftmill Lowland Single Malt Summer Batch Release 2011 is a Lowland single malt Scotch whisky from the small Daftmill Distillery in Fife, Scotland. This family-run farm distillery occupies a special place within the Scottish whisky landscape, as whisky production is integrated into the annual farming cycle. Distilling takes place mainly during quieter periods between the labour-intensive phases on the farm. Whisky distilled in 2011 was used for this Summer Batch Release. Daftmill relies on barley grown on its own land for its production, thereby directly linking agriculture and whisky-making. This edition is bottled at 46% ABV, allowing the characteristic, elegant style of this Lowland distillery to shine through unadulterated.
The Daftmill Distillery was founded by the Cuthbert family on Daftmill Farm and was granted its distilling licence in 2005. The water used in whisky production comes from the distillery’s own spring on the farm grounds, whilst the modest scale of production means that Daftmill bottlings are released onto the market only in relatively limited quantities. The Daftmill Summer Batch Release 2011 is thus a prime example of the distillery’s consistent ‘farm-to-bottle’ approach. Unlike at many larger Scottish distilleries, raw material sourcing, agriculture and distillation form a particularly close-knit whole here. The combination of the 2011 vintage, small-scale production, Lowland origins and a family-run farm distillery makes this 0.7-litre bottling particularly appealing to connoisseurs of independent Scottish single malts.
Tasting Note
Colour: Golden yellow to pale amber.
Nose: Fruity and malty with ripe apples, citrus fruits, vanilla and subtle notes of grain.
Palate: Balanced and elegant with sweet malt, vanilla, fruit, honey and a subtle oakiness.
Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious, with fruity accents, malty sweetness and gentle spiciness.
The Daftmill Lowland Single Malt Summer Batch Release 2011 is best enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C, although a few drops of still water can help to further open up the aromas. It pairs well with mild hard cheeses, roasted almonds, butter biscuits or desserts featuring apple and vanilla, without overpowering the whisky’s delicate character. This bottling is also well-suited as part of a comparative tasting of various Lowland single malt Scotch whiskies. Due to the small production volumes and its distinct farm character, it is also of interest to collectors and connoisseurs of Scotch whisky.
