The Weingut Kerschbaum is one of Austria’s leading wineries. It is situated in Horitschon, known as ‘Blaufränkischland’, in Burgenland. The term ‘Blaufränkischland’ refers to a wine-growing region in Central Burgenland where the Blaufränkisch grape variety is the main one cultivated. Paul Kerschbaum’s aim is to produce full-bodied, long-lasting wines with a hint of oak. In 2011, Paul Kerschbaum handed over responsibility for wine production to his son Michael.

Paul Kerschbaum Cuvée consists of a balanced blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Following a 28-day maceration period, the wine matures for 24 months in new oak barrels to refine its aromas and structure. This is followed by a further 12 months of bottle ageing at the winery. After this careful ageing process, the wine is bottled and sealed with a natural cork.

Tasting Note

A deep ruby-garnet colour with violet highlights in the glass. On the nose, delicately smoky with notes of ripe wild berries and candied orange zest. On the palate, elegant and juicy, with ripe heart cherries, hints of nougat and a tobacco-like spiciness. A long-lasting finish.

Serving temperature: 16 °C

It pairs superbly with hearty beef dishes, grilled meats and a selection of soft and hard cheeses. Decanting for 2 hours is recommended to allow the wine to fully develop its character.
