Description
Tement Sauvignon Blanc Ried Grassnitzberg Riff Südsteiermark DAC 2021 13% vol. 3 litres in a wooden crate
The Tement Winery, situated in southern Styria on the border with Slovenia, focuses primarily on the cultivation of white grape varieties. 95 per cent of its vineyards are planted with varieties such as Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Pinot Blanc, Morillon and Traminer. The wines, which are grouped under the ‘Steirische Klassik’ label, come from various vineyards and are matured in stainless steel tanks. In addition to the “Steirische Klassik”, the winery also produces single-vineyard wines, each reflecting the characteristic influence of its specific growing site and aged in both large and small wooden barrels.
The Ried Grassnitzberg, the first vineyard owned by the Tement family, is regarded as an outstanding example in the world of winemaking. Planted by the founder, Josef Tement, himself in the 1950s, this vineyard offers a unique expression of the terroir. The old vines, which take root in this south-east-facing basin-shaped site, trace their origins back to an astonishing 16-million-year-old coral reef.
Tement Sauvignon Blanc Ried Grassnitzberg Riff is a single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc that embodies the highest level of craftsmanship. Following natural spontaneous fermentation, the wine matures for 24 months on its fine lees in large, old Styrian oak barrels, which lends it a special finesse and depth. The wine is then bottled unfiltered and sealed with a natural cork.
With an impressive ageing potential from 2025 to 2045, this Sauvignon Blanc is ideally suited both for immediate enjoyment and for long-term storage.
