At the heart of this bottling lies a fascinating technical approach: ‘High Gravity Mashing’ – a groundbreaking variation on the mashing process, in which the amount of water was drastically reduced and an even higher concentration of barley malt was used.

This extreme concentration in the mash tun – one of the central elements of production at Ardbeg – produced a densely structured wort. The result is a whisky that captivates with its particularly fruity ester aromas, sweet depth and powerful smokiness. The result is a new dimension of Ardbeg, where the distillery’s heritage is combined with futuristic technology. Smokiverse is produced in small batches, each with its own distinct character. Bottled at 48.3% ABV, non-chill-filtered and unadulterated, this edition offers an intense and complex tasting experience.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: An aromatic explosion – fruity esters, smoked chewing gum, maturing barley and toasted sourdough bread blend to create an intense bouquet.

Palate: Full-bodied, creamy and powerful, with sharp, sooty and spicy notes such as creosote, aniseed and cloves. These are contrasted by sweet muscovado sugar, charcoal and robust oak notes.

Finish: Almost endless – with earthy peat moss, embers from a campfire and an underlying sweetness that lends depth to the smoke.

Ardbeg Smokiverse is ideal for enjoying neat in a nosing glass, to fully appreciate the multi-layered interplay of estery fruit and peaty smoke.
