Takamaka PTI LAKAZ Rum Batch 2 45.1% is a characterful blended rum from the Seychelles, combining tropical ageing on the island with a variety of distillation styles and ingredients from different origins. At its heart lies traditionally pot-still-distilled Seychelles rum made from sugar cane, sourced from four different casks, including two port casks. This base is complemented by pot still and column still molasses rum, which has been aged for three years in ex-bourbon casks, as well as an eight-year-old Foursquare rum from Barbados. This unusual blend lends the Pti Lakaz a distinctive depth, in which local Seychelles tradition, Caribbean maturity and diverse cask characteristics come together harmoniously.

At 45.1% ABV, the Takamaka Pti Lakaz Batch 2 displays an intense yet balanced profile featuring dried fruits, spices and tart cocoa notes. Particularly distinctive are notes of dried apricot, star anise and cocoa beans, which combine with dry cask spice to create a complex overall profile. This rum is bottled without added sugar or colouring, and is also bottled without chill filtration, thereby preserving its structure and original character. The 0.7-litre bottle, presented in a gift box, emphasises the exceptional quality of this edition and makes Takamaka Rum – with its influences from port, bourbon and Foursquare – particularly appealing to connoisseurs of natural, multi-layered rum blends.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold to amber.

Nose: Rich and fruity with dried apricot, accompanied by star anise, cocoa and subtle spicy notes.

Palate: Full-bodied with dried fruit, spicy star anise and bitter cocoa beans, complemented by dry oak and spicy notes.

Finish: Complex, dry and long-lasting with spices, cocoa and fruity accents.

The Takamaka PTI LAKAZ Batch 2 is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C, although a few drops of still water can bring out additional fruity and spicy notes. When paired with food, mature hard cheeses, grilled meat, air-dried ham or roasted nuts complement its dry and spicy structure very well. For desserts, dark chocolate, apricot tart or desserts featuring cocoa and dried fruit are particularly well-suited. The complex character of this bottling also comes into its own in a reduced rum Old Fashioned.
