The Douglas Laing Rock Island The Cologne Edition is a strictly limited-edition special release from the popular Rock Island range by the independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co. With an alcohol content of 48% vol. and bottled in a 0.7-litre bottle, this blended malt Scotch whisky is aimed at both lovers of maritime-inspired whiskies and collectors of exclusive editions.


Like all releases in the Rock Island range, this edition combines the characteristic island malts from Islay, Jura, Arran and Orkney, which are characterised by their maritime freshness, subtle smokiness and salty minerality. The whisky impresses with its multi-layered aroma, ranging from salty breezes, gentle peat smoke, vanilla and malty sweetness to spicy oak notes. With the Cologne Edition, Douglas Laing pays tribute to the German whisky community and presents a bottling that is available only in limited quantities.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold.

Nose: An intense coastal character with sea air, peat smoke, salt and fresh citrus notes.

Palate: Smoky, maritime and complex, with hints of campfire, malt, sweet vanilla and a touch of spice.

Finish: Long-lasting, smoky and fresh with a salty breeze.

Rock Island The Cologne Edition is ideal for enjoying neat, to experience its robust maritime character. Adding a few drops of water brings out additional nuances of sweetness and fruitiness. Culinary pairings include seafood, smoked fish, grilled meat or strong cheeses. It is also an excellent choice to accompany a cigar or dark chocolate with a high cocoa content.
