A particularly defining feature of this single malt is its maturation in a European oak butt that was previously filled with sweet dessert wine from Montilla, Spain. These casks emphasise Balvenie’s characteristic sweet honey note, which is perfectly balanced by rich vanilla oak and warming spice. Each bottling comes from a single cask and has been carefully selected by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie herself. This gives every bottle its own unique character and underlines the special boutique approach of this range.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with coppery highlights.

Nose: Rich and complex with honey, raisins, dried figs, vanilla and delicate cocoa notes.

Palate: Full-bodied, sweet and well-balanced with sherry notes, dark chocolate, dates, caramel and subtle spice.

Finish: Long-lasting, warm and elegant with dried fruit, oak and vanilla.

The Balvenie Montilla Curious Cask reveals its full character when enjoyed neat in a nosing glass or with a few drops of water, which bring out the sherry and dessert wine nuances even more intensely.
