The New Grove Inception 21 Years Old Mauritius Rum Vintage 2004 50% vol. 0.7 l + GB is a rare bottling from Mauritius and is one of Grays Distillery’s most exclusive releases. This edition is limited to 960 bottles and is sourced from two carefully selected casks, Cask No. 045R and 070R. It is based on molasses, 94 per cent of which was distilled in a column still, thus reflecting New Grove’s typically elegant, finely structured style. The exceptional 21-year maturation took place in a combination of Limousin oak, chêne and ex-cognac casks, which lend the rum a multi-layered depth, subtle spice and a rich fruity sweetness. Particularly noteworthy is the entirely natural character of the bottling: 100% natural, no sugar, no colourings, no chill filtration – a true reflection of the Mauritian rum tradition.


The New Grove Inception 21 Years displays a complex bouquet characterised by caramelised sugar, molasses, yellow fruits and sweet spices. Added to this are hints of wood, ripe dried fruit and that elegant freshness resulting from decades of cask maturation in cognac oak. At 50% ABV, this limited single-cask edition offers a powerful yet harmoniously balanced structure that will delight collectors and connoisseurs of authentic Mauritian rums alike. Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with amber hues.

Nose: Caramelised sugar, molasses, yellow fruits, sweet spices, wood and dried fruit.

Palate: Full-bodied, fruity and spicy, with notes of molasses, caramelised fruit, spices and elegant oak ageing.

Finish: Long-lasting, warm, complex and distinctly characterised by its time in a cognac cask.

This rum pairs superbly with dark chocolate, fig compote or caramel-based desserts, as its sweet, spicy and fruity nuances elegantly complement these flavours. It also goes excellently with full-flavoured cheeses or nut-based biscuits. Enjoyed neat at room temperature, it reveals its full complexity, whilst a few drops of water release additional spicy and fruity notes. The Inception 21 Years also reveals its multi-layered, long-lasting depth as a special highlight at the end of a meal or when paired with a mild cigar.
