The Douglas Laing Scallywag Cognac Cask The Winter Edition 2026 is a limited-edition Speyside blended malt Scotch whisky from the renowned Remarkable Regional Malts range by the independent bottler Douglas Laing. Scallywag is blended exclusively from selected single malt whiskies from Speyside. The Winter Edition 2026 is a special release within the range, as this is the first time Scallywag has undergone an additional finish in hand-selected Cognac casks. As a result, Scallywag’s characteristic fruity and spicy Speyside style is complemented by additional influences from French cask maturation. The 2026 edition is also the second release in the relaunched Winter Edition series.

The Scallywag Winter Edition 2026 is bottled at a robust 54.2 per cent, at natural cask strength. Furthermore, the whisky is bottled without colouring or chill filtration. Only 5,100 bottles of this limited edition are available worldwide. The interplay of Speyside malts, robust cask strength and a cognac cask finish sets this edition apart from the classic Scallywag and makes it particularly appealing to collectors of the Remarkable Regional Malts. The 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a matching gift box and combines the brand’s iconic fox terrier motif with a special release designed specifically for the winter season.

Tasting Note

Colour: Rich gold with warm amber highlights.

Nose: Honeyed malt and warming spices, accompanied by figs, dates and orange marmalade, as well as creamy vanilla fudge.

Palate: Rich, full-bodied and intense, with sultanas, plum compote and black cherries, complemented by warming baking spices, chocolate and orange.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming, with dried fruit, cocoa, ginger and cinnamon, as well as a robust, spicy structure.

The Scallywag Cognac Cask Winter Edition 2026 is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C; however, at 54.2% cask strength, a few drops of still water can bring out additional fruity and spicy notes. It pairs particularly well with dark chocolate, dried figs and dates, roasted hazelnuts or mature hard cheese. Desserts featuring plums, black cherries, orange or cinnamon also complement its wintry, fruity character perfectly. With a limited run of 5,100 bottles, this edition is also particularly well-suited to collectors and for comparative tastings of various Scallywag special releases.
