The Gaja Barbaresco DOCG 2021 14% is one of Italy’s most distinguished red wines and a prime example of the exceptional quality of the renowned Barbaresco wine region in Piedmont. In its 0.75-litre bottle, this Barbaresco DOCG combines the elegance of the Nebbiolo grape variety with the unmistakable signature of the world-famous Gaja winery. The vineyards are situated on soils rich in limestone, clay and marl, which lend the grapes exceptional depth, minerality and finesse. Following approximately three weeks of temperature-controlled maceration in stainless-steel tanks at 26 to 30 °C, the wine is first aged for 12 months in barriques and then for a further 12 months in large oak casks. The 2021 vintage is powerful, precise and exceptionally elegant, and has excellent ageing potential until 2034. This premium red wine is sealed with a classic natural cork, which supports its optimal development in the bottle.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Gaja Barbaresco DOCG 2021 displays a deep ruby-garnet colour. On the nose, intense aromas of wild berries, plums, liquorice and freshly roasted coffee unfold. On the palate, it is powerful yet elegant, with excellent fruit, firm tannins and superbly integrated acidity. The finish is complex and long-lasting, impressing with exceptional depth and finesse.

The Gaja Barbaresco DOCG 2021 reaches its full potential when served at a temperature of 16–18 °C. It is recommended to decant the wine for about one to two hours before drinking to allow its complex aromas to develop fully. It pairs superbly with braised beef, game dishes, lamb, truffle risotto, porcini mushroom dishes or mature hard cheeses. This Barbaresco DOCG is also an excellent accompaniment to festive meals and special occasions.
