Description
Description
The Aberlour A'BUNADH Original Cask Strength is a robust Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 60.7 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle. The name A'bunadh comes from Gaelic and roughly translates as ‘the original’. With this traditional bottling, the Aberlour Distillery pays homage to a particularly authentic style of whisky. A key characteristic is the maturation in carefully selected Oloroso sherry casks made from Spanish oak, which define the intense and full-bodied character of the range. The whisky is bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration and without the addition of colouring. Each batch of Aberlour A’BUNADH is released as a separate batch, meaning that the alcohol content and character may vary slightly between individual bottlings.
At 60.7% ABV, this variant of Aberlour A’BUNADH is particularly concentrated and expressive. The combination of sherry cask maturation, traditional production methods and high bottling strength makes it a characterful whisky for lovers of intense sherry cask single malts. At the same time, A’BUNADH is one of the Aberlour Distillery’s best-known cask-strength bottlings and offers a particularly authentic interpretation of the classic Speyside style.
Tasting Note
Colour: Deep mahogany with ruby-red highlights.
Nose: Dried fruit, raisins, dark cherries, orange, spices and intense sherry notes.
Palate: Powerful and full-bodied with dark fruits, chocolate, orange, cinnamon, ginger and spicy oak.
Finish: Long-lasting, intense and warming with dried fruit, dark chocolate and lingering spicy warmth.
The Aberlour A’BUNADH Original Cask Strength is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat, although a few drops of still water are recommended due to its high cask strength. This allows the intensity to be adjusted to personal preference and enables the whisky to open up further in the glass. Culinary pairings include mature hard cheeses, game dishes, roasted walnuts, dried fruit or dark chocolate.
