The Macallan 12 Years Old DOUBLE CASK COLLECTION is a 12-year-old Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 40 per cent, in a 0.7-litre bottle complete with a gift box. The Double Cask Collection combines The Macallan’s traditional signature with a carefully selected range of different oak casks. Sherry-seasoned American oak and European oak casks are used for maturation, in which the single malt is aged for at least twelve years. American oak contributes in particular to the softer, sweeter character, whilst European oak adds extra spice and structure. The careful balance of both cask types forms the heart of The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old.

The Macallan is one of Scotland’s most traditional whisky houses and was founded in 1824. In the Double Cask Collection, the selection and preparation of the oak casks play a particularly important role, with the influence of sherry-seasoned casks being deliberately emphasised. The Macallan 12 Years Double Cask thus combines a clearly defined age statement with the distillery’s characteristic cask management. Its natural colour derives exclusively from contact with the oak casks, with no added colouring. This makes the 12-year-old Macallan ideal both as an introduction to the Double Cask Collection and for connoisseurs of classic sherry-matured single malt whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden amber with warm honey-coloured highlights.

Nose: Creamy toffee, vanilla, honey, candied citrus fruits and subtle oak notes.

Palate: Smooth and well-balanced with honey, caramel, vanilla, raisins, citrus fruits and warm spices.

Finish: Long-lasting and pleasantly warming with sweet oak, spices and subtle fruity notes.

The Macallan 12 Years Old Double Cask is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, with a few drops of water or over a large ice cube. With savoury dishes, it pairs particularly well with roast duck, beef or mature hard cheese, whose robust flavours complement its sherry and oak cask character perfectly. For sweet accompaniments, try apple tart, crème brûlée, roasted nuts or desserts with caramel and dried fruit. This makes the single malt an excellent choice as a digestif, for a quiet evening with whisky or for special occasions.
