Wagemut by N. Kröger PX-CASK STRENGTH Edition 01 is a limited-edition rum-based spirit that presents the well-known Wagemut PX-Cask in a particularly potent cask-strength version. It is based on a 10-year-old rum from Barbados, which is then given its cask finish in Germany. For this finishing process, Wagemut uses exceptional 35-year-old Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The intense influence of these old PX casks combines with the already long-aged base spirit from Barbados. The edition is bottled at an unadulterated 58.7% cask strength, allowing the wood, fruit and sherry cask components to come through with particular intensity. The producer explicitly markets the finished product under the trade description ‘spirits’, which is why the bottling is correctly labelled as a rum-based spirit and not as rum.

The PX-Cask Strength Edition came about after Wagemut served the regular PX-Cask straight from the cask at the 2025 Summer Festival, and the positive response led to the development of an official bottling. Wagemut plans to release this variant just once a year as a limited edition. Another distinctive feature is the design: a different spirit animal is to be depicted on the bottle each year. Edition 01 thus combines 10-year-old Barbados rum, a finish in Germany, 35-year-old PX sherry casks and 58.7% cask strength to create an exceptionally intense interpretation of the well-known Wagemut PX-Cask. As such, the 0.7-litre bottling is aimed particularly at connoisseurs of full-bodied, sherry-cask-influenced spirits and collectors of limited-edition Wagemut releases.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber.

Nose: Intense and concentrated, with pronounced woody notes, dark fruit and sweet hints of PX sherry.

Palate: Powerful and full-bodied with distinctive cask character and intense oak, balanced by the lush sweetness of the Pedro Ximénez sherry cask.

Finish: Long-lasting, robust and warming, with sweet sherry, wood and cask notes.

The Wagemut PX-CASK STRENGTH Edition 01 is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature; however, given its high alcohol content of 58.7 per cent, a few drops of still water may be added to adjust the strength to your personal preference. It pairs well with dark chocolate, dried fruit, roasted nuts or strong, mature cheeses that can hold their own against the intense PX cask character. This edition is also ideal as a digestif or for a comparative tasting with the standard Wagemut PX-Cask. Thanks to its limited annual production run and the changing ‘spirit animal’ motif, it is also of interest to collectors.
