The Maker's Mark PRIVATE SELECTION 50th Anniversary Kirsch Import Limited Edition is an exceptionally limited special bottling of the renowned Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky, created to mark the 50th anniversary of Kirsch Import. It is based on the characteristic Maker's Mark Bourbon, whose original style dates back to the founding family’s recipe from 1953. As part of the Maker’s Mark Private Selection programme, selected partners can create a bespoke cask finishing. To achieve this, ten specially selected oak staves are placed inside the cask; their varying toasting and treatment profiles specifically influence the bourbon during its secondary ageing. Each Private Selection cask thus acquires an individual character, which Maker’s Mark regards as the respective partner’s personal ‘thumbprint’.


For the Kirsch Import 50th Anniversary Limited Edition, a bespoke combination of ten staves in total was chosen: 3 Maker’s Mark 46 staves, 2 Baked American Pure 2 staves, 4 Seared French Cuvée staves and 1 Roasted French Mendiant stave. Baked American Pure 2 is particularly characterised by vanilla, honey and light fruits, whilst Seared French Cuvée contributes creamy notes, toasted caramel and almond. Maker's Mark 46 brings notes of dried fruit, baking spices and caramel, whilst Roasted French Mendiant contributes hints of milk chocolate, coffee and dried fruit. Bottled at a robust 55.4% ABV and limited to just 264 bottles, this Maker’s Mark Private Selection from Kirsch Import is a particularly rare release for bourbon enthusiasts and collectors.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep amber with warm coppery highlights.

Nose: Vanilla, honey and light fruits mingle with toasted caramel, almonds and subtle notes of dried fruit.

Palate: Full-bodied, creamy and complex, with caramel, baking spices and ripe fruit, accompanied by milk chocolate, coffee, vanilla and nutty notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and intense, with caramel, dried fruit, chocolate, coffee and warming oak spice.

Due to its high ABV, Maker's Mark Private Selection 50th Anniversary Kirsch Import is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, although a few drops of still water can further bring out the distinct characteristics of the four stave profiles used. It pairs well with roasted almonds and pecans, dark chocolate, caramel desserts or mature hard cheese. Limited to just 264 bottles, this edition is particularly interesting for comparative bourbon tastings alongside regular Maker’s Mark or Maker’s Mark 46. Due to its unique stave composition and very limited run, the anniversary edition also holds significant collector’s appeal.
