Thomond Gate Yankee Clipper Coffee Liqueur is an Irish coffee liqueur from County Limerick that combines strongly roasted coffee with premium Irish whisky. The bottling is produced by Thomond Gate Limerick Whiskey, an independent brand dedicated to reviving Limerick’s whisky tradition. The name Yankee Clipper refers to the historic era of transatlantic flying boats and, in particular, to Foynes in County Limerick, which is closely linked to the origins of Irish Coffee. It is said that in 1943, chef Joe Sheridan combined coffee with Irish whisky there for transatlantic travellers. Yankee Clipper translates this historic connection between coffee and Irish whisky into a modern liqueur with an alcohol content of 20 per cent and a volume of 0.7 litres.

For the Yankee Clipper Irish Coffee Liqueur, Thomond Gate uses deeply roasted coffee and Irish whisky, resulting in a rich yet smooth liqueur. The focus is on pronounced espresso and roasted notes, complemented by dark cocoa, caramel and a balanced sweetness. The whisky in the blend lends the composition additional warmth and body. With this product, Thomond Gate deliberately draws on Limerick’s beverage heritage: the brand also pays homage to the historic Thomond Gate Distillery, which operated on the River Shannon from 1809 to 1919. With its combination of Irish heritage, Irish whisky, roasted coffee and the Irish coffee tradition, the Yankee Clipper has a clearly defined profile within the coffee liqueur category.

Nose: Freshly brewed coffee with dark chocolate and subtle caramel notes.

Palate: Full-bodied and intensely coffee-flavoured, with a pleasant sweetness, a creamy texture and hints of dark chocolate and caramel.

Finish: Long-lasting and rounded, with strong, pleasantly lingering coffee aromas.

Thomond Gate Yankee Clipper Coffee Liqueur can be served well chilled, either neat or on the rocks, and is particularly well suited to classic and modern coffee cocktails. An obvious choice is the Espresso Martini, in which the liqueur’s intense coffee flavour really comes into its own. Culinary pairings include tiramisu, chocolate desserts, vanilla ice cream, brownies or desserts featuring caramel and coffee, and it can also be used directly to enhance various sweet dishes.
