The blend combines pot still and grain Irish whiskey and represents a fuller-bodied, spicier style within the category. A key component is the characterful pot still component, for which malted and unmalted barley are used. The triple distillation typical of Irish whiskey contributes to a balanced yet expressive character. Selected oak casks are used for maturation; their influence complements the spicy and fruity characteristics of the distillate and lends Powers Gold Label additional structure.

The history of John Power & Son began in Dublin and established Powers as a leading name in the Irish whisky tradition. A distinctive feature of the brand as early as the 19th century was its consistent practice of bottling its own whisky under its own control, rather than selling it exclusively in casks to merchants. Today, Powers Gold Label carries on this time-honoured name as a versatile blended Irish whisky. With an alcohol content of 43.2 per cent, the 0.7-litre bottle also has a slightly stronger alcohol strength, which allows the spicy notes in particular to come through clearly.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden yellow with warm amber highlights.

Nose: Fruity and spicy with subtle notes of grain, vanilla, honey and a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced with ripe fruit, vanilla, honey and typical pot-still spice, accompanied by subtle oak notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and spicy with a delicate sweetness, cereal, vanilla and warming spicy notes.

Powers Gold Label Irish Whiskey is ideal for enjoying neat at room temperature or with a few drops of still water. In terms of food pairings, mature Cheddar, roasted nuts, dark chocolate or hearty meat dishes complement its spicy, fruity character. At 43.2%, this bottling also provides an expressive base for classic drinks such as an Irish Whiskey Highball, Whiskey Sour or Irish Coffee. For tastings, it is particularly well-suited for comparison with milder Irish whiskey blends or classic single pot still whiskies.
