Martell Cognac Cordon Bleu Extra Old Cognac 40% vol. 0.7 l
Martell Cordon Bleu Extra Old Cognac is one of the most traditional and best-known prestige cuvées from the French cognac house Martell. The Cordon Bleu was created in 1912 by Edouard Martell and has become one of the house’s signature expressions. The cognac owes its distinctive character to a high proportion of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies cru, the smallest of the six growing areas in the Cognac region. This origin plays a key role in the Cordon Bleu’s distinctive style and is complemented by carefully selected, matured eaux-de-vie from other crus. The designation ‘Extra Old’ refers to the distinctly mature character of the blend. With an alcohol content of 40 per cent, this cognac is well-balanced and complex.
The House of Martell was founded in 1715 by Jean Martell and is thus one of the oldest major Cognac houses in France. Over the generations, the use of Borderies eaux-de-vie in particular has become a key component of the characteristic Martell style. Martell Cordon Bleu centres on the art of blending, in which eaux-de-vie of varying ages are combined to create a harmonious whole. Its long history dating back to 1912 and the unmistakable influence of the Borderies region make it a classic amongst France’s Extra Old cognacs. The 0.7-litre bottle is particularly well-suited to discerning cognac tastings, special occasions and connoisseurs seeking a premium cognac steeped in tradition with a distinct sense of place.
Tasting Note
Colour: Deep copper-gold with amber highlights.
Nose: Complex and elegant, with candied fruit, plums and delicate floral notes, accompanied by spices and toasted undertones.
Palate: Full-bodied and harmonious, with ripe fruit, candied orange and spicy accents, as well as subtly integrated oak.
Finish: Long-lasting and elegant with fruit, spices and a warm, delicately woody structure.
Martell Cordon Bleu Extra Old Cognac is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C, allowing its complex aromas to unfold fully. It pairs well with mature hard cheeses, roasted nuts, dried fruit or dark chocolate, which complement its mature and spicy character. This cognac also pairs well with desserts featuring candied orange, plums or dark chocolate. Thanks to its long history and special place in the Martell Cognac range, Cordon Bleu is also ideal as a digestif and for festive or special occasions.
