Penderyn PEATED Single Malt Welsh Whisky comes from Wales and combines the characteristic style of the Penderyn Distillery with a distinctly smoky note. The history of the modern Welsh distillery began in the late 1990s, with whisky being distilled at Penderyn again for the first time in 2000. A distinctive feature of this peated Welsh single malt is that its smoky character does not stem from the use of heavily peated malt. Instead, the whisky derives its peaty character from maturing or finishing in ex-peated whisky casks. In this way, Penderyn combines its comparatively elegant house style with a controlled, subtly integrated smokiness.

The Penderyn Peated Single Malt is bottled at a robust 46% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle. This expression forms part of the Penderyn Gold Range and demonstrates how the Welsh single malt style can be enhanced with an additional dimension through the targeted use of casks. The combination of Welsh whisky, ex-peated cask influence and 46 per cent alcohol content makes this variant particularly interesting for connoisseurs seeking smoky whiskies without resorting exclusively to the classic style of Scottish island whiskies. Penderyn is now one of the best-known names in Welsh whisky and has played a key role in re-establishing Wales internationally as a whisky-producing region in its own right.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Gentle peaty smoke, citrus fruits and fresh fruity notes, accompanied by subtle vanilla and a delicate sweetness.

Palate: Smooth and well-balanced with a hint of sweetness, ripe fruit, vanilla and a pleasantly spicy note.

Finish: Long-lasting, slightly dry and smoky with a subtle sweetness and lingering peaty note.

Penderyn PEATED Single Malt Welsh Whisky is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, although a few drops of still water can further bring out its fruity and smoky notes. It pairs well with smoked salmon, grilled meat, spicy hard cheese or roasted nuts. Dark chocolate also offers a pleasant contrast to the subtle peaty notes. Thanks to its moderate smokiness, the Penderyn Peated is also well suited to whisky tastings where different interpretations of smoky single malts are compared.
