The Eldvatten Svenska Bruichladdich 13 Years Old Cask #2341 is a limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky from the 5th Anniversary Cat Series by the Swedish independent bottler Svenska Eldvatten. The spirit originates from the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay and has been matured for a total of 13 years. A defining feature of this single cask release is that it has been matured entirely in a fresh bourbon cask, registered under cask number #2341. After more than a decade of cask maturation, the whisky was bottled at a robust 56.9 per cent, at cask strength. No chill filtration or colouring has been used, ensuring that the whisky’s colour and character remain as authentic as possible.

The Bruichladdich 2012/2026 from Svenska Eldvatten thus combines several characteristics that are particularly sought after by connoisseurs of independent Islay bottlings: single cask, cask strength, 13 years’ maturation, a fresh bourbon barrel and natural colour. Within Islay, Bruichladdich is known for a comparatively fresh, maritime and fruit-forward distillery character, which in this bottling is complemented by the bourbon cask maturation. The distinctive Cat Label marks Svenska Eldvatten’s anniversary series and lends the bottle additional collector’s appeal. A second 13-year-old Bruichladdich bottling, Cask #2342, was released at the same time, whilst #2341, at 56.9 per cent, showcases its own cask characteristics.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Fresh citrus fruits, light fruit and the sweetness of grain, accompanied by vanilla and an elegant maritime note.

Palate: Lively, creamy and multi-layered, with citrus, sweet malt and vanilla, complemented by maritime accents and the robust structure of cask strength.

Finish: Long-lasting, fresh and warming, with citrus, the sweetness of grain, vanilla and subtle oak spice.

The Eldvatten Bruichladdich 13 Years Old Cask #2341 should initially be tasted neat at around 18–20 °C to experience the unadulterated character of the fresh bourbon cask. At 56.9% cask strength, a few drops of still water can then be added to reveal further aromatic facets. This pairs well with smoked fish, mild hard cheese or roasted almonds, without overpowering the comparatively fresh Bruichladdich style. The Cat Label, the single-cask bottling and the unadulterated presentation also make this whisky an interesting choice for Islay tastings and collections.
