The Macallan 15 Years Old Colour Collection is a 15-year-old Highland single malt Scotch whisky and part of the exclusive Macallan Colour Collection, which focuses in particular on the natural development of colour and the influence of sherry-seasoned oak casks. The whisky is matured predominantly in American oak casks that have previously been seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera, and is complemented by a smaller proportion of European oak casks. Over a period of at least 15 years, not only does the cask character develop, but so too does the intense colour, resulting solely from the interaction between the distillate and the oak. Accordingly, the Macallan Colour Collection 15 Years Old is bottled without any added colouring. It is bottled at 43 per cent ABV, whilst the 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a matching gift box.

The Colour Collection was originally conceived as a travel retail-exclusive range and comprises different age statements, whose natural hues vary with increasing maturity. For the 15 Years Old, The Macallan describes the colour as ‘Rich Beech’, a deep beech wood hue. The packaging design also reflects the connection to Jerez de la Frontera and was created in collaboration with graphic designer David Carson. The focus is on the landscape, vineyards and characteristic colours of Andalusia, where The Macallan’s oak casks are pre-seasoned with sherry before being shipped to Scotland. In this way, the Macallan 15 Years Colour Collection combines long maturation, American and European oak, sherry seasoning and natural colouration to create a unique interpretation of the classic Macallan style.

Tasting Note

Colour: A rich beech wood hue with deep amber highlights.

Nose: Gentle oak, vanilla toffee and candied orange peel, accompanied by crystallised ginger and subtle spice.

Palate: Creamy and well-balanced, with sweet citrus pastries, vanilla cream and baked peaches, as well as elegant sherry and oak notes.

Finish: Medium to long-lasting, with toasted oak, citrus fruits and a hint of cinnamon.

The Macallan Colour Collection 15 Years Old is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C, although a few drops of still water can further bring out the various nuances of the cask. It pairs well with roasted almonds, dark chocolate or desserts featuring orange and vanilla, which complement the whisky’s character.
