Jura THE ROAD Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a former travel retail bottling from the Jura Distillery and takes its name from the only road on the remote Isle of Jura. This road runs along the coast to the distillery, situated in the south-east of the island, and symbolises the close connection between the whisky and the island community. THE ROAD has no age statement and is initially matured in ex-bourbon casks. The single malt is then given a special finish in casks that previously contained 20-year-old Pedro Ximénez sherry. This combination blends Jura’s fruity house style with a distinctly sweeter, spicier sherry cask component. The whisky is bottled at 43.6% ABV in a generous 1-litre bottle.

The Jura Distillery is situated in Craighouse on the Scottish island of Jura and boasts a long tradition of whisky-making. THE ROAD was part of a series developed specifically for the global travel retail market and is now listed by Jura amongst its earlier releases. A particularly distinctive feature is the interplay between American ex-bourbon casks and a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask finish, which brings apricot, dark sweetness, and notes of nuts and spices to the fore. The colour of the whisky is adjusted using caramel colouring E150a. With its 1-litre bottle and unique cask combination, Jura THE ROAD 43.6% is of particular interest to connoisseurs of fruity, spicy island single malts and former travel retail bottlings.

Tasting Note

Colour: Autumnal gold.

Nose: Ripe apricots, dark treacle and bergamot, complemented by roasted pistachios and a warm sweetness.

Palate: Full-bodied and spicy, with roasted pistachios, dark treacle and distinctive notes of ground coffee and cinnamon.

Finish: Long-lasting and spicy, with coffee, cinnamon and dark treacle sweetness.

Jura THE ROAD is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C, although a few drops of still water can further bring out the fruity and spicy components. As accompaniments, roasted pistachios or almonds, mature hard cheese and dark chocolate pair particularly well with the influences of the Bourbon and PX sherry casks. Desserts featuring apricot, coffee or caramel also complement the whisky’s key flavours. Thanks to its 1-litre travel retail format, THE ROAD is also well suited to tastings featuring several Jura bottlings.
