Planteray Rum BARBADOS Single Cask Sauternes Barrel 2019 44.7% ABV 0.7 l is a limited-edition rum from Barbados, part of the exclusive Planteray Single Cask Collection 2026. This exceptional rum is produced from sugar cane molasses at the historic Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery, where the molasses is first fermented for two to three days and then processed using pot still and column still distillation. Distilled in 2019, the rum is initially matured for five years and six months in Ferrand casks under continental conditions in France, without first undergoing tropical cask maturation. It derives its distinctive character from a final 16-month finish in a former Sauternes wine cask. After a total of around six years and ten months of cask maturation, this special edition is presented in a 0.7-litre bottle with a gift box, combining Caribbean rum tradition with French cask finishing.

The Planteray Rum brand, formerly Plantation Rum, belongs to the French spirits house Maison Ferrand and, under the guidance of Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, is renowned for its exceptional barrel combinations. The Planteray Barbados 2019 Sauternes Barrel is particularly distinguished by its Sauternes finish, which highlights the influence of the famous French sweet wine from the Bordeaux wine region. Tasting Note

Colour: Warm gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Elegant orange blossom, delicate beeswax, ripe apricots, banana, mango and coconut, accompanied by raisins, toasted nuts and spicy notes.

Palate: Velvety and full-bodied, with juicy peach, mandarin, nectarine, dried banana and pineapple, complemented by nutmeg, a delicate honeyed sweetness and a subtle mineral note.

Finish: Long-lasting and complex, with cedar wood, spicy allspice, creamy vanilla, heather honey and fresh orange zest.

The Planteray Barbados 2019 Sauternes Barrel is excellent for enjoying neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass, so that the fruity and spicy facets of this special barrel ageing can unfold. A few drops of still water can bring out additional nuances of the Sauternes post-maturation. As a culinary accompaniment, creamy blue cheese, mature Comté or mild goat’s cheese harmonise particularly well with the fruity and honeyed notes. Apricot tart, caramelised peaches or white chocolate also offer an interesting complement.
