The Macallan QUEST Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 40% opens the Quest Collection with a deliberately lively and fresh style that highlights the importance of high-quality oak casks to the character of The Macallan. This bottling is intended as a tribute to the distillery’s extensive search for suitable casks, which spans more than 20,000 miles. For The Macallan Quest Single Malt, four different, carefully selected cask types are combined: American ex-bourbon casks, hand-selected European oak sherry casks, American oak sherry casks and hogsheads. This multi-layered selection of casks creates a balanced blend of fresh citrus, vanilla, delicate oak and gentle spice.

At 40% ABV, The Macallan Quest 1 l is elegant, approachable and clearly focused on freshness. Apple and lemon characterise the opening, before vanilla, ginger, dried fruit, nutmeg and cinnamon add further depth. Particularly distinctive is the balance between sweet vanilla-oak and fresh citrus aromas, which sets the Quest clearly apart from heavier, more intensely sherry-influenced Macallan bottlings. The 1-litre bottling from the Macallan Quest Collection thus combines the distillery’s renowned focus on cask maturation with a lighter, more versatile style, making it particularly suitable for lovers of elegant single malt Scotch whiskies with complex oak maturation.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Soft citrus notes with rounded apple and lemon, accompanied by vanilla sweetness and subtle oak.

Palate: Fresh apple with ginger and dried fruit, complemented by nutmeg, cinnamon and gentle oaky spice.

Finish: Long-lasting and smooth with light fruit, subtle sweetness and delicate notes of vanilla and wood.

The Macallan QUEST is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C or with a few drops of still water, which allows the citrus, apple and vanilla to come through even more clearly. It pairs very well with mild hard cheeses, roast poultry, air-dried ham or roasted almonds. For desserts, apple tart, lemon pastries, vanilla custard or pastries with cinnamon and dried fruit harmonise beautifully with the fresh cask profile. The whisky can also be enjoyed in a pleasant, approachable way over a large ice cube.
