The New Grove EMOTION 1969 Mauritius Island Rum 47% ABV is an exceptional vintage blend from the historic Grays Distillery in Mauritius, bringing together several decades of Mauritian rum history in a single bottling. The basis is formed by rare distillates from 1969, rediscovered in 2015, which had been aged for many years in old whisky casks. These particularly old reserves were then blended with carefully selected vintages from 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The base is molasses, from which Grays produces a characterful, dry style of rum. The New Grove Emotion 1969 thus embodies not a single 1969 vintage, but a meticulously composed vintage blend from Mauritius, whose oldest components date back to 1969.

With a robust 47% ABV, the New Grove EMOTION 1969 preserves its intense fruitiness, spicy depth and the influence of its long cask maturation particularly well. It is bottled without added sugar, colouring or other additives, and without chill filtration, thereby preserving the original character of the matured distillate. Tropical fruits, citrus, subtle pastry notes and soft hints of butter meet dark chocolate, coffee and warm spices. The 0.7-litre bottle thus represents a particularly expressive Mauritian rum made from molasses, in which historic reserves and younger vintage distillates have been blended to create a complex, dry and multi-layered composition.

Tasting Note

Colour: Amber with warm orange highlights.

Nose: Intensely fruity with ripe pineapple, banana and citrus, accompanied by subtle notes of pastry, butter, coconut and gentle spice.

Palate: Powerful and complex with ripe fruit, molasses, dark chocolate and coffee, complemented by cinnamon, nutmeg and subtle vanilla.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious with dark chocolate, spices, oak and a fresh, slightly mentholated note.

The New Grove EMOTION 1969 is best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a nosing glass, allowing its multi-layered vintage composition to unfold slowly. A few drops of still water can particularly bring out the fruit and spice notes at 47% ABV. Culinary pairings include dark chocolate, roasted nuts or strong, matured cheese. This dry, matured rum also makes a fitting finale to chocolate tarts, caramelised pineapple or desserts featuring coffee and vanilla.
