The Laphroaig FOUR OAK Cask Collection 40% vol. is a characterful Islay single malt Scotch whisky, in which the selection of casks plays a central role. For this bottling, Laphroaig combines single malts matured for varying lengths of time in four different types of cask: ex-bourbon casks, traditional quarter casks, European oak hogsheads and new American oak casks. It is precisely the interplay of these different wood and cask characteristics that lends the Laphroaig Four Oak additional depth and a particularly smooth texture. The smaller quarter casks intensify the contact between the whisky and the wood, whilst the European oak and new American oak contribute further spicy and sweet notes. At the same time, the unmistakable, peaty, maritime character of the historic Laphroaig Distillery on Islay remains clearly intact.

Tasting Note

Colour: Brilliant gold.

Nose: Intense peaty smoke with fruity compote notes and warm, toasted vanilla.

Palate: Full-bodied with peaty smoke and oak, accompanied by seaweed, pine and soft buttercream.

Finish: Long-lasting and smoky with a subtle hint of salty liquorice.

Laphroaig Four Oak is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat, on the rocks or with a small splash of chilled water, allowing the various cask and smoky notes to open up further. On the palate, it pairs superbly with smoked salmon, oysters or strong blue cheese. Grilled lamb, smoked meats or spicy BBQ dishes also complement its intense peaty smokiness beautifully. For a sweet contrast, dark chocolate or desserts with salted caramel are a particularly good match.
