The West Cork Irish Whiskey VIRGIN OAK CASK FINISHED 43% vol. 0.7 l is a characterful Irish single malt whiskey that impresses with its unique cask maturation and traditional production methods. It is produced by West Cork Distillers in County Cork, in the south-west of Ireland – a distillery founded in 2003 that is renowned for its innovative cask maturations and artisanal whisky production. As part of the West Cork Small Batch series, this single malt is initially matured in first-fill bourbon casks before undergoing a final finish in new, unused oak casks from the Kelvin Cooperage. This so-called ‘Virgin Oak’ secondary maturation lends the whisky additional depth and a pronounced oak character. Bottled at 43% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle, it is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.


West Cork Distillers combines Irish whisky tradition with modern maturation concepts and places particular emphasis on the careful selection of its casks. The West Cork Virgin Oak Cask Finished is characterised by a combination of American bourbon cask maturation and a finish in fresh oak. The new casks from the renowned Kelvin Cooperage allow for intensive contact between the whisky and untreated oak, enabling the influence of the wood to unfold particularly clearly. By avoiding chill filtration and artificial colourings, the natural characteristics of the distillate are preserved. Tasting Note

Colour: Warm golden yellow with amber highlights.

Nose: Fresh hay, juicy pears, creamy vanilla ice cream, subtle notes of sawdust and spicy white pepper.

Palate: Fruity and well-balanced, with ripe pears, juicy oranges, spicy ginger and a pronounced oak character.

Finish: Medium-length and pleasantly warming, with tropical fruit notes, a subtle citrus freshness and a hint of oaky spice.

The West Cork Virgin Oak Cask Finished is excellent for enjoying neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass, so that the fruity and spicy facets of this special cask maturation can unfold. A few drops of still water can further enhance the oak notes and fruity nuances. As a culinary accompaniment, mature Cheddar, roasted almonds or mild Comté harmonise well with the spicy cask character. Pear tart, vanilla desserts or dark chocolate with orange zest also complement the fruity and woody aromas of this Irish single malt whisky.
