The Douglas Laing Big Peat 12 Years Old is an Islay blended malt Scotch whisky, composed exclusively of single malt Scotch whiskies from the Scottish island of Islay. For this blend, the independent bottler Douglas Laing marries various Islay malts to create a characteristically maritime and peaty profile. The components include Caol Ila, which adds sweet notes; Bowmore, for balance; Ardbeg, for medicinal and earthy facets; and a proportion of Port Ellen, which lends the blend additional elegance. All the whiskies used in this edition have been matured for at least twelve years. The Big Peat 12 Years Old Islay Blended Malt is bottled at a robust 46 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. Nose: Clear, fresh and maritime, with salty sea air and sweetish malt, accompanied by intense peaty smoke.

Palate: Powerful and smoky with charred oak, fireplace smoke, mineral-salty hints of rock pools and distinctive tarry notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and intense with brown sugar, campfire ash and a distinctly phenolic aftertaste.

The Douglas Laing Big Peat 12 Years Old is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, although a few drops of water can further open up the powerful smoky and peaty components.
