The Hannes Reeh Chardonnay Unplugged 2023 is an expressive Chardonnay from Austria that uncompromisingly stands for origin, character and authenticity. As part of Hannes Reeh's renowned Unplugged Linie, this wine from Andau in Burgenland epitomises the principle of "zero compromise". Only the best that the Andau soil can produce ends up in the bottle. The philosophy behind Unplugged means no cosmetic intervention, no fining, no added enzymes or yeasts. In particularly strong vintages, there is even no filtration, resulting in a particularly Purist varietal wine.


The Chardonnay 2023 comes from 15 to 20-year-old vines and was harvested at 21° KMW. Spontaneous fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and the subsequent ageing in barriques gives this Austrian white wine additional structure and depth. At 14% vol., this Burgenland Chardonnay is powerful, yet precise and balanced. The 2023 vintage emphasises the stylistic signature of Hannes Reeh, who stands for modern, terroir-driven quality wines from Burgenland. The ageing potential extends to 2030, making this Chardonnay with barrique ageing suitable for both immediate consumption and further ageing.

Tasting Note

In the glass it is a bright golden yellow with brilliant reflections, The nose reveals fine floral aromas, juicy pear and subtle nutty notes, accompanied by an elegant woody spice, On the palate the wine is smooth and creamy, with a harmonious structure, fine spice and well-integrated freshness, The finish is elegant and balanced, long-lasting and gently spicy.

This Chardonnay from Andau is the ideal choice for fish and seafood dishes such as fried zander, grilled prawns or scallops in butter. It is a particularly harmonious accompaniment to dishes with strong sauces, such as salmon in a white wine sauce or cod with beurre blanc. This Austrian white wine also comes into its own with white meats such as veal medallions in a cream sauce, chicken with creamy risotto or pasta with mushroom cream.
