The Hannes Reeh Chardonnay Unplugged 2023 is an expressive Chardonnay from Austria that uncompromisingly embodies terroir, character and authenticity. As part of Hannes Reeh’s renowned Unplugged Linie, this wine from Andau in Burgenland embodies the principle of ‘zero compromise’. Only the very best that the Andau soil has to offer makes it into the bottle. The philosophy behind Unplugged means no cosmetic interventions, no fining, and no added enzymes or yeasts. In particularly strong vintages, there is not even any filtration, resulting in a particularly purist varietal wine.


The 2023 Chardonnay comes from vines aged between 15 and 20 years and was harvested at 21° KMW. Spontaneous fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, whilst subsequent ageing in barriques lends this Austrian white wine additional structure and depth. With an alcohol content of 14% vol., this Burgenland Chardonnay is powerful, yet precise and well-balanced. The 2023 vintage underlines the stylistic signature of Hannes Reeh, who is renowned for modern, terroir-driven quality wines from Burgenland. It has ageing potential until 2030, making this barrique-aged Chardonnay suitable for both immediate enjoyment and further maturation.

Tasting Note

In the glass, it displays a radiant golden-yellow colour with brilliant highlights. On the nose, delicate floral aromas, juicy pear and subtle nutty notes unfold, accompanied by an elegant woody spice, On the palate, the wine is smooth and creamy, with a harmonious structure, delicate spice and well-integrated freshness. The finish is elegant and balanced, long-lasting and carried by gentle spice.

This Chardonnay from Andau is the ideal choice to accompany fish and seafood dishes such as pan-fried pike-perch, grilled prawns or scallops in butter. It pairs particularly well with dishes featuring rich sauces, such as salmon in white wine sauce or cod with beurre blanc. This Austrian white wine also comes into its own with white meats such as veal medallions in a cream sauce, chicken with creamy risotto or pasta with a mushroom cream sauce.
