The alcohol content of Aperol is interesting. Whilst the liqueur has always been 11 per cent in Italy, in Germany it was at times 15 per cent by volume. The reason for this was the German deposit regulation: bottled spirits could only be sold without a deposit if they had an alcohol content of 15 per cent or more. Since 2011, Aperol in Germany has once again had an alcohol content of 11 per cent, thus adhering to the original recipe.
