Arachon is characterised by its deep, dark red colour and a complex aromatic profile. The nose is dominated by aromas of dark berries, ripe cherries, delicate spice and subtle toasted notes derived from barrel ageing. On the palate, the wine is both powerful and elegant, with a perfect balance between fruit, acidity and tannins. The aromas of berries, spices and a delicate hint of chocolate lead to a long, harmonious finish that leaves you wanting another sip. Arachon is a wine that gains in complexity with every passing year and is excellent for ageing.

The story of Arachon began in the 1990s, when three of Austria’s leading winemakers – Gernot Heinrich, Josef Umathum and Franz Weninger – joined forces to create a red wine that embodies the very best of the region. Their aim was to produce a wine that perfectly reflects the terroir of the Blaufränkisch region whilst remaining competitive on the international stage. The first vintage of Arachon was launched in 1996 and immediately received widespread acclaim. Since then, Arachon has established itself as one of Austria’s leading red wines and stands as a symbol of the high quality and innovative spirit of Austrian viticulture.

Arachon is made from the finest grapes of the Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties, which thrive in the vineyards around Horitschon. The careful hand-picking and rigorous selection of the grapes guarantee the wine’s high quality. After harvesting, the grapes are gently processed and fermented in small wooden barrels to allow the wine’s aromas and structure to develop to their full potential. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, which impart its characteristic depth and subtle woody notes. Each vintage is produced with great care and attention to detail to preserve the wine’s unique character.

Arachon is a versatile red wine that pairs superbly with hearty meat dishes such as beef, game or lamb. It is also an excellent choice with braised vegetables or spicy pasta dishes. Arachon is best enjoyed at a temperature of 16–18 °C to bring out its full flavour. Decant the wine about an hour before serving to allow it to breathe fully. Arachon is also an ideal choice for special occasions and offers pure enjoyment when served on its own or with a cheese platter.
