This characterful Islay single malt Scotch whisky combines the distillery’s typical powerful smokiness with complex cask maturation, which lends it additional depth and aromatic complexity. As with all the distillery’s bottlings, the barley is dried over peat fires, giving the whisky its distinctive smoky character. The clear water from the nearby Kilbride Stream is used for distillation; it has been an integral part of the production of this legendary peated Scotch whisky for generations.


What sets this Laphroaig PX Cask whisky apart is its elaborate triple maturation process. First, the whisky is matured in ex-bourbon casks made from American oak, which bring out classic notes of vanilla and oak. The whisky is then transferred to traditional white oak quarter casks – smaller, 19th-century-style casks – which, thanks to their larger surface area, allow for more intensive maturation and lend the Islay single malt a particularly velvety texture. The whisky acquires its final character through its finishing in Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, which develop additional aromas of dried fruit and a pleasant sweetness. This combination creates a multi-layered balance of smoke, fruit and spicy depth. Nose: Sweet and smoky, sultanas, raisins, liquorice, peaty smoke, hints of the sea.

Palate: Intense peaty smoke, oak, sweet PX sherry notes, dried fruit, spicy ginger.

Finish: Long and dry, intense peat smoke, spicy oak, sherry-tinged depth, long-lasting.
