San Cosme Mezcal Joven is an exceptional 100% agave mezcal that embodies the very essence of traditional Mexican distilling. Produced in Oaxaca, the world’s most famous region for mezcal, it stands for authenticity, craftsmanship and intense flavour. As a Mezcal Joven (young mezcal), it is not aged in casks after distillation, allowing its original aromas and characteristic smokiness to come through particularly clearly.

This mezcal is based on the Espadín agave, one of the most popular agave varieties used in mezcal production. After harvesting, the agave hearts are slowly roasted over a wood fire in stone ovens buried in the ground, which gives them their typical smoky note. They are then crushed using stone mills, traditionally fermented and double-distilled. This meticulous production process results in a complex, aromatic flavour profile with mineral, fruity and spicy nuances.

Tasting Note

Nose: Intense smoky notes of toasted agave, combined with herbs, citrus fruits and a hint of sweetness.

Palate: Smooth yet full-bodied, with notes of sweet agave, pepper, a hint of caramel and mineral undertones.

San Cosme Mezcal Joven is best enjoyed neat at room temperature to fully appreciate its smoky and fruity flavours. A traditional accompaniment is orange slices with Sal de Gusano (worm salt), which perfectly highlights the mezcal’s earthy notes.

This artisanal mezcal also shines as a cocktail ingredient. It reveals its distinctive aromas in drinks such as the Mezcal Negroni, Oaxaca Old Fashioned or a smoky Margarita twist. Culinary pairings include grilled meat, spicy tacos, smoked cheese or dark chocolate.
