The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, continues to preserve many traditional methods in its production process to this day. For instance, the barley is still grown on site, and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor – a rarity in the modern whisky industry. Furthermore, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers, who are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the casks to ensure optimum quality throughout the entire maturation process.

Balvenie 12 Years Old Single Barrel First Fill was first launched in 2013 and has been one of the brand’s more exclusive whiskies ever since. This single malt was matured for 12 years in first-fill bourbon casks, which gives it its characteristic depth and complexity.

As each bottling comes from a single cask, the number is limited to 300 bottles per cask, making each batch unique. Every bottle is carefully numbered by hand, further emphasising the exclusivity and artisanal character of this whisky.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold with shimmering highlights.

Nose: Aromas of ripe apples, citrus fruits and vanilla, accompanied by a subtle woody note and a hint of caramel.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced, with fruity notes of pear and peach, spiced with a hint of cinnamon, oak and honey.

Finish: Long and warm, with a pleasant vanilla and spice note that fades gently.

Balvenie 12 Years Old Single Barrel First Fill is ideal for enjoying neat, to experience the full depth of its diverse flavours. This whisky also shows its best side when paired with mature cheeses, dark chocolate or caramel desserts. For cocktails, it is an excellent base for a Whisky Sour or Rob Roy, allowing its intense flavours to shine through beautifully.
