The Kilchoman SANAIG Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a distinctive expression from the independent Kilchoman Distillery and offers a sherry-influenced alternative within the core Kilchoman range. Named after the secluded bay of Sanaig on the north-west coast of Islay, this single malt embodies elegance, depth and a distinct maritime island character. The Sanaig is blended from four- and five-year-old malts and has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, with the proportion of sherry casks deliberately higher than in the Machir Bay.


This cask selection lends the Kilchoman Sanaig additional structure and darker notes, without overshadowing the distillery’s typical, oily and smoky house style. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring, the texture and all the flavour-giving oils and esters are fully preserved. The Sanaig thus presents itself as a well-balanced Islay single malt that harmoniously combines smoke, cask sweetness and fruit, appealing to both seasoned Islay enthusiasts and connoisseurs of sherry-influenced whiskies. Colour: Light ochre, with yellowish-reddish hues.

Nose: Soft, stewed fruit, caramel, vanilla.

Palate: Caramel, elegant peaty smoke, citrus notes, lingering sweetness.

Finish: Long-lasting, with a well-balanced blend of peaty smoke, fruit and sweetness.

The Kilchoman SANAIG Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is excellent when enjoyed neat and reveals its depth particularly well when given a little time in the glass. Thanks to its sherry-influenced cask profile, this smoky Islay single malt pairs very well with dark chocolate, desserts featuring dried fruit or strong hard cheeses. Even when compared to Machir Bay, the Sanaig offers an intriguing insight into the Kilchoman house style and impresses with its balance, elegance and long-lasting finish.
