Liquore Strega was first produced in 1860 and has since been renowned for its unique blend of over 70 herbs and spices, sourced predominantly from Europe, Central America and the Orient. Once the carefully selected blend of spices has been prepared, the liqueur is aged in oak barrels, which lends it additional depth and complexity. It owes its characteristic yellow colour primarily to the high saffron content in the recipe.

The origins of this time-honoured liqueur lie in an ancient legend which states that the city of Benevento was once regarded as the meeting place for all the witches of the world. This mysterious story not only contributes to the mystical aura of Liquore Strega, but also sets it apart historically from other liqueurs and gives it a unique heritage.

Tasting Note

Colour: Bright golden yellow with a natural saffron sheen.

Nose: Complex, with herbal notes, sweet spices, citrus notes and a gentle menthol freshness.

Palate: Full-bodied, spicy and slightly sweet with flavours of mint, aniseed, cinnamon, honey and herbs.

Finish: Lang, aromatic and slightly dry with a bittersweet herbal aftertaste.

Ideal as a digestif, served neat or on the rocks. Also makes an interesting ingredient in classic and modern cocktails – for example, in the ‘Strega Sour’ or ‘Golden Negroni’. It is also popular for flambéing, for enhancing desserts, pastries or in patisserie, particularly in Italian specialities such as ‘Torta Caprese’ or ‘Babà al Liquore Strega’.
